At The Fair

Monday, September 8, 2014

The best part of the end of summer is the Canfield Fair here in northeastern OH. Growing up, it always signified the school days to come, but most of all, it meant a whole day of rides, fair food and getting pulled around with my sister in a bright red Radio Flyer wagon by mom and dad. (Well, mostly dad).
As I've gotten older and the rides became less interesting, the fair is still a special place that brings so many memories back for me. My favorite part of the fair is actually where these photos were taken, in a town constructed with real buildings from the 1800s. It's amazing to see the old doctor's office, train, and general store.
Family really is the most important thing in my life, and as of late I've learned who I can call family--and unfortunately, who I can't. One of my short and long term goals is to be a better family member- daughter, sister, niece, cousin. It's important to listen and be present in the moment, and that is one thing I'm working on. We're always a work in progress, huh?

Outfit Details: Glasses: Coastal// Dress: ModCloth (similar on sale)// Shoes: Keds//

  1. This dress is adorable on you, and that second photo is especially lovely! And your new blog layout looks great!

  2. I'm loving the new blog layout, girl! (: That dress is so flattering on you! And that shade of yellow is very seasonally appropriate, which I love (:

  3. so freaking cute!! and the new layout is perfection! (:

  4. Aw, you are freaking adorable! That dress... the cut and color is stunning on you. And I have the exact same Keds. Further proof that polka dots are my constant weakness.

Believe it or not, I had never been to a county fair until a few years ago, when I had to cover one for a news story. I think my favorite part of it all is the atmosphere, and walking through the 4H booths with all of the contest entries. Kids and adults alike can be so creative when it comes to art, canning, etc.

And sorry to hear of the family riffs. I'm all too familiar with that. But the good thing is you recognize what you want to improve on, so kudos to you for taking those first steps!

  5. PS Your layout! Awww!! Love the fresh, bright colors. Just like you, right? ;)

  6. Love the layout! I bought this same dress during Modcloth's big sale. I've just been waiting patiently for it to get a little cooler here so I can wear it. Love it with the Keds!

  7. THIS DRESS IS SO CUTE AND YOU ARE SO CUTE! I absolutely love your smile too- it's so contagious! Lovely post, dear. <3 You seem like so much fun!

  8. You have a talent for dressing for the occasion; this dress is the perfect fair dress! The historic part of the fair sounds really interesting, and it made an awesome background for these photos. It's sweet that you've made a conscious goal of being a more present and caring family member. I agree that we're all a work in progress all of the time, just doing the best we can.

  9. I love your dress! It's my favorite color so I may be biased but it's such a perfect shade for the almost-fall season. And I love the background of these photos. I need to find a train station for my next shoot! :D I love your style and from your posts you seem to have such a fun personality.

  10. That fair sounds cute, but I have no interest in most fair rides anymore now that Im older but I love going for the fair food ;) I love your dress, It suits you perfectly. I agree, I have such a struggle with family sometimes because as far as extended family goes I feel like a black sheep in my rather conservative family but as far as my mom dad and sister goes I think we have the best relationship we've ever had and I think it continually gets better. I think thats something that just happens with time and age (hello annoying teenager version of Justine your mom is really not as embarrassing as you think)

  11. I'm trying to be more present and a better sister too.

LOVE this outfit. And it fits the idea of going to the fair so well.
